What are your kiddos and teens doing? Are they absorbed in video games or having a good ol’ conversation with another human being? What do your kiddos really know about their friends, other than their favorite Xbox or PS3 game? What do you really know about your own kiddo?
These are good questions to ponder, but not just that. Act on these questions. Get your kiddo involved in fun discussions with their friends and with you!
Around The Table is a fun way to get your friends and family talking.
Creator and owner of Around the Table games, Beth Daniels was blessed to have her grandparents and great-grandparents in her life for decades. Over the years, she realized that the more she learned about them, the better she understood herself. As a result, she treats the stories they shared as priceless gifts that she is determined to pass on to her own children. Daniels understands all too well how active lives and busy schedules can prevent families from sharing the anecdotes and folklore that make a family a family. That’s why she created Family Talk and Grandparent Talk games as a fun way for families to reconnect. What began as a business of bringing families together through conversation has now brought the Daniels family together through entrepreneurship! Beth’s 9 year old daughter saw and heard the impact that her mom’s games had on peoples’ lives, so she decided to write some games of her own. Thanks to Beth’s daughter’s hard work, in 2009, Around the Table added Buddy Talk (for tweens) and Camp Talk (for kids going away to camp) to its line of conversation games. The family involvement continued as Beth’s niece wrote Teen Talk – a conversation game designed for Teens!
This Mom’s Review:
As I skim through the questions in the Teen Talk and the Buddy Talk, I realize that I don’t know much about my kiddos, not as much as I’d like to anyway. The questions presented aren’t too private, yet are interesting enough to get that kid of yours talking! I may even get my hubby in on our little talk time!
Questions from the Buddy Talk:
- What is your most prized possession or favorite thing?
- What is the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
Questions from the Teen Talk:
- Do you have any regrets? What would you do differently?
- Are you happy to go home after school? What makes you feel welcome?
I find my son likes to open up to me at night after the house has gotten quiet and it’s just the two of us. These questions will definitely come in handy! My daughter shares things with me while we are going on walks, which I’ve let slip. I can easily latch the questions to my key ring or belt loop for easy carry on our walks.
One final thought… don’t just ask the questions. Answer some, too!

What is the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you?
Unfortunately I have several to choose from. One was when I was walking thru a hospital cafeteria during the drs. lunch time. I was alone and felt somewhat intimdated. I nonchalantly went to take a drink a drink and the straw went up my nose! Horrified I jerked back and the straw remaining stuck!

This would be PERFECT for my step son who is in counseling. We play all kinds of games and this is just like ones that his therapist has that we do. Gets him talking about emotions, using his words, exploring feelings etc..
Yes, I am very happy to get home from school to see my kids and play around.

I’ll answer the embarrassing moment question. I actually have many moments, but here’s one that happened to me last week!
I’m a breastfeeding a mother. A sick one, at that. I went into Wal-Mart last week to buy myself some chicken noodle soup. I got up to the cash register and it was a male (of course) and he was looking at me quite strange. I didn’t know what he was looking at until I got in the car and realized I had two HUGE puddles on my shirt. Needless to say, I should have bought some nursing pads along with that chicken noodle soup!
